I posted last week about the newest addition to our family: Taffy.
When we brought Taffy home, she was in desperate need of a bath, food, and especially some TLC. She was a picky eater and hardly ate a thing for several days. She was also very meek and calm. We had her in our home for four days before she was scheduled to see the vet to be spayed and updated on shots. I was hesitant handing her over at the vet’s office hoping that she would not think she was being abandoned again. When I picked her up the following day, a miracle happened.
As the vet staff brought her to me, she immediately became a wiggle worm with excitement. Realizing she had not been left again, but that she was going home, she jumped into my arms and licked my face.
Upon arriving home she hopped down, greeted the rest of the family, and went to her food bowl and ate. In the days that has passed since then she has become sassy, playful, bossy, and protective. The security of home and family has taken a dog that was timid and mild and transformed her into a confident, happy, priss-pot (as my grandmother would say).
Isn’t that just like us as Christians? We were lost and found but that wasn’t enough. As Max Lucado so beautifully says it,
“God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus. ”
Our old bondages are things of the past. The confidence of who we are in Christ transforms us into a new creation.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you really will be free. John 8:36
I am thankful that God loved me enough not just to rescue me, but also to transform me. I am thankful He loved me enough to offer me hope and the new life that is only found through a relationship with Christ Jesus. I am thankful that He transformed a wretch like me. And I am thankful that He isn’t finished with me yet.
